About NxtNote
Since necessity is the mother of all
invention,
we’d like to introduce you to “mom”
Over the years, our sister company Wireless Workshops has conducted dozens of
project planning workshops all around the world. These workshops are highly
interactive, collaborative planning sessions that bring together 20 -30 core
team members all working on the same project. Participants were given a stack of
Post-It Notes® and Sharpie® pens onto which they scribbled handwritten comments
that were then placed on various flipcharts around the room. These flipcharts
had exciting titles such as “Issues”, “Assumptions”, “Tasks”, “Next Steps”,
“Risks”, etc. When a participant had something to contribute to the rest of the
team, they simply wrote their comment on the Post-It Note, and placed it on the
appropriate flipchart.
After two or three days of brainstorming from these folks, the conference room
was literally wallpapered with Post-It Notes. Of course, all of this information
had to be entered into various computer applications, and made available to the
team. This meant some poor soul (and usually two or three) had to look at each
individual note, determine where it needed to be entered, and manually type the
information into the computer. This process would literally take hours and hours
of tedious keyboarding, endless questions about what was meant, and trying to
interpret “handwriting hieroglyphics”.
After countless 4 am data entry sessions, with blood-shot eyes we screamed in
unison “There has to be a better way”!
It seemed like a small
idea, really
NxtNote did not start out intending to change the world. It started with a key
insight into a better way of collaborating with others and working together
during our own planning workshops – not a process known for spawning technology
or communication revolutions.
It took several years of trial and error to turn the idea into a working
prototype. Our first attempts at automating this brainstorming process were slow
and unimpressive. We kept working on the idea, asked our clients what they did
and didn’t like about our technology, and forged ahead in the firm belief that
we were onto something revolutionary.
Eventually perseverance won the day, the NxtNote technology was completed, and a
company was formed with the modest goal of improving our own workshops and
helping people work together more efficiently.
But really good ideas have a way of building momentum in unexpected
directions About that time we realized that the efficiency issues overcome with NxtNote
technology didn’t just create a new way to capture information, it created a new
way for teams to work together. Period. Brainstorming sessions yielded pages and
pages of applications with not just moderate efficiency improvements compared to
existing processes, but giant leaps. Since then, NxtNote has been a flurry of activity with the single-minded purpose
of creating nothing short of a revolution in processing information,
brainstorming and conducting workshops. Among the things we have done are:
- Built a whip-smart Management Team and Board of Directors
- Brought together a highly diverse and dedicated team of software engineers to
further extend the technology and create its applications
- Filed for and received patents and other technology and trademark protections
- Developing a world-wide network of partners to help us get products and
processes from the brainstorm list to the end user
- Innovated a business model that allowed us to maximize the effects of our
efforts

How the “small” idea has grown! Today NxtNote stands posed at the edge of a
massive opportunity to create processes that the business world literally has
never seen before, to improve the way people work together and corporations
plan, and to create a company that we can be proud to tell our grand-children
about.
